vern luThis week has been very productive for Daryl! On Monday he had a visit from Javier, who is a gentleman that has had a similar surgery to Daryl. He was very informative and honest about challenges and how his daily life is today. His surgery will be 2 years in February. Today Javier is very active, travels and was even going to the Latin Grammys in Las Vegas this week. His honesty and positive attitude was very uplifting.

Each day we are “stripping” Daryl down, his antibiotics, TPN and pain pump have all been discontinued. We are working on a  pain med schedule and mirroring his  bolus tube feedings to be like at home. The endocrinologist  would like one more day to ensure he is tolerating the feedings, and his insulin is under control. We are planning for all the new  medications and thankfully, we have the equipment he already needs at home!

Daryl has been walking the halls regularly and the nurses are all thrilled to see him up and about. Today was a big milestone, as Daryl was able to take a shower! He has not had this luxury for two weeks! He did a nice shave and was looking more handsome than ever!

Most of you maybe familiar with Daryl , oh so subtle facial expressions. The eye rolls, grimace and scrunched faced, each with their own meaning, most of you can fill in the blanks! This is a true sign that he is feeling better and ready to come home!  I know Vern Lu (pictured above) will be very happy!

Thank you for all the continued prayers and positive thoughts!

  1. Daryl, thank you for your email to Auntie Lyn, and so I am following your instructions replying. We are glad Javier’s encouraging visit was uplifting for you. We are fervently praying that the Lord will bless you with a comfortable stay at home and continue to strengthen you.
I spoke with your Mom and Derek today:. they are of course thinking of you. I don’t know when you were in contact with Derek; he fell down last week trying to replace the battery in a fire alarm, breaking several ribs. Last week he also took your Dad to the DMV to take the written test to renew your Dad’s driver license. Your Dad passed the test!!.
Auntie Lyn and I are well, just have some arthritis here and there. I hope this message reaches you. We continue to uphold you and Charlotte in our prayers that our Lord Jesus, the greatest of all physicians, wiil grant you miraculous healing as He wills.

  3. Hi Daryl! The kitty looks like Samantha, the kitty I brought with us to California, when we moved from Massachusetts in l974. You may not remember that beautiful cat but she kept me company while Ted worked those long hours at Justice. Calico cats have a very sweet personality and I am sure yours misses you and Charlotte very much! Vern is beautiful but very sad in your picture. They are very smart and know when things are going on.

Good news about the returning home, hopefully today or maybe you are there already. Thank God! Thanks, also for you instructions on how to respond via this blog. Hopefully I have done this correctly.

We continue to pray hard for all the issues. Progress is in the making! So happy that you had such a special visitor to encourage you. Your team is awesome. You have worked hard for them and they for you.

Lots of love to you both today.
